CHARLIE Sendin kept a safe distance ahead to take this year’s title of the Saipan Duathlon at Paupau Beach in San Roque.
Close to 100 participants raced in the event held as prelude to the annual Tagaman. It consists of two run legs with a bike race in between.
Sendin clocked in at 2:32:58.2 to win overall in the individual standard distance race consisted of 10-kilometer run, 40-kilometer bike and another 5-kilometer run.
A regular fixture of the island’s long distance races, Sendin who lost to Caleb Wang in 2016 Saipan Duathlon by a few seconds, put up a huge distance ahead of Tyce Mister who clocked in at 2:39:27.1 to win this year’s second place overall.
Ronald Villafria came third with a 2:54:44.2.
Emily Northrop defended her crown in the women’s individual race with a 2:55:23.2 and finished fourth overall but this time, she shared the top spot with Heather Brook as they crossed the finish line together.
Claire Devey claimed the second place in the women’s division with a 3:24:31.21.
Also completing the standard distance solo were Danny Calvo who finished fifth overall with a 2:57:24.4; Mark Isip, sixth, who clocked in at 3:04:08.5, Pacman Jacob, seventh, with a 3:20:16.0 and Edmundo Bata, eighth, with a 3:23:11.3.
